Alfreda J. “Freddie” Johns of Hagerstown, Md., passed Dec. 20, 2013.
Born March 20, 1959, in Altoona, Pa., to Edna Butterbaugh and the late
Alfred Joseph Veloz, she graduated from Belwood High School, Belwood
Pa., attended Penn State’s Altoona campus, and worked for Lafferty
Trucking in Altoona and later as an auditor for Horst Milk Transfer.
Freddie is survived by her husband, Phillip B. Johns of Hagerstown;
her son, Phillip E. A. Johns, U.S. Air Force, Spokane, Wash.; sisters,
Stephanie Veloz and Kathleen Roe of Altoona; niece, Anita Veloz; and
nephew, Robert Veloz. She also is survived by a good friend, Marcus
Visitation is Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harman,
Kenworthy & Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
Visitation also will be Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at
Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, 719 N 4th Ave., Altoona, followed by a
funeral liturgy on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at 9 a.m. Interment will
immediately follow in Alto Reste Park Cemetery, 109 Allegheny
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name to Boys and Girls Clubs
of Washington County, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742,
would be appreciated by the family.
